The Subtle Benefits Of Omega-3

Omega-3 fish oil is a hidden gem of nutrition. It’s somewhat mainstream now as far as advertising and its promotion on packaging but I don’t think people understand the true subtle benefits felt every day.

The first time I took some of the pure pharmaceutical-grade Omega-3 fish oil I slept a deep sleep. In the middle this sleep I woke and was so lethargic I felt as if I’d been anesthetized. I read about this in a book by Dr. Barry Sears and it mentioned this was one of the possible effects when you first start taking Omega-3. I quickly fell back to sleep and woke up feeling refreshed.

As the months went by I gradually felt what I would describe as more buoyant in personality meaning if anything negative came my way it would roll off me like water off a duck’s back. Problems and events that before might have ruffled my feathers became passing issues or mere problems to solve.

I also noticed that my skin and hair were becoming softer and more resilient. Also my shoulders which have been painful since overtraining years ago gradually felt less tight. I could work longer doing tasks which strained them before they reached the painful over-tired burning sensation which normally took only 10 seconds.

Omega Three Fats And Pregnancy Nutrition

Nutritionists of today more or less universally suggest fish oils. Why? There is more and more exploration coming out on the subject of the benefits of omega-3 fish oils every day. The awesome body of research around fish oils is repeatedly growing and has been very well received by most nutrition professionals. This science involves encouraging findings for Omega-3′s effectiveness on health concerns ranging from reducing joint stiffness to reducing the danger of stroke but it is also extremely beneficial for beneficial people to add Omegas to their daily routine and markedly important for pregnant women and children.

For the commonly healthy population Omega-3′s play a critical role in supporting cardio health, blood sugar metabolism and nourishing brain function. For women who are thinking about having a baby, are pregnant or breastfeeding Omega-3′s are strongly suggested for their support in the development of the baby’s brain, retinas and central nervous system. In addition, new research is indicating that nearly all of the DHA and omega-3 fish oils consumed by a developing fetus are taken directly from the mothers stores of these crucial fatty acids. These essential fatty acids are also crucial for expecting mothers because of their impact in numerous areas of health.

Omega 3 EPA DHA, Our Evolution In Food Consumption Statistics

Whenever I read new statistics, I always refer back to my favorite expert, Dr. Joseph Hibbeln, National Institutes of Health, one of the world’s leading authorities on Omega 3. I read the other day we now have 60,000 pre-packaged food items available in super Wal-Marts, Targets, grocery stores, and back in the 50′s we had a mere 2,000 items. And I was reminded of this excerpt from Dr. Hibbeln’s radio broadcast:

“I have data from the USDA of how much of every food was consumed from 1909 to the year 2000. We know what was available for purchase in the US diet. Seed oils and these Omega 6′s were a very small tenth of a percent or hundredth of a percent of the calories in the US diet in evolution and at the turn of the century. Now they are 20% percent of all calories in the US diet. Where do you find it? Every time you pick up a pre-manufactured food and it says vegetable oil. Soybean oil is called the lubricant of the food industry and it literally is.”

What is the Difference Between Omega 3 and 6 Oil?

By Jane L. Lawson

There are two major kinds of essential fatty acids that you should eat on a daily basis. Some of these acids are easy to get into your system through your regular diet, but others are not as easy. For example, omega 6 acids are present in most of the foods that people eat today, whereas omega 3 fatty acids are considerably rarer. The differences between omega 3 and 6 oil have to do with where the oils are found as well as the chemical makeup of the different omega fats.

The first difference between omega 3 and omega 6 oil is that you can actually eat different oils in order to get these two different EFAs. Omega 3 fatty acids are almost only found in oils like fish oil or flax oil. Although there are a few other foods that you can get these fatty acids from, those two oils are the best sources. Omega 6 fatty acids can be found in most of the oils that you use to cook food on a regular basis.

The Safety of Omega 3 and Pregnancy – Using Omega 3 and Pregnancy

By Jean Helmet

Being pregnant is exciting and wonderful. There are however, very valid concerns regarding the taking of medications, vitamins and supplements, and even some foods.

If you are like a lot of people, you don’t necessarily think about essential fatty acids, whether they are Omega 3 or Omega 6.

New studies are coming out and are out that identify Omega 3′s and its components like DHA- docoahexaenoic acid, EPA-eicosapentoic acid, and ALA-alpha-linolenic acid.

There is also Linoleic acid usually called Omega 6 and is found in oils such as corn, safflower, cottonseed and sunflower.

The benefits of Omega 3′s have been widely studied and discussed. The use of Omega 3 during pregnancy is of course between you and your doctor but it has been described as very beneficial both to the mother and to the unborn child.

In general Omega 3′s helps to support brain health and functioning, improving the synaptic connections between hemispheres. Retinal health is supported by improving the central vision thus helping with Macular Degeneration.

What this means for pregnant women is that using Omega 3′s can help them during their pregnancies and the development of their child (ren). They help to develop nervous systems and form the retina. This can reduce the risk of problems for the baby.
