Why Does Good Eyesight Need More Fish Oil?
Fish oil contains what are called the Omega3 essential fatty acids. There’s a number of Omega3 essential fatty acids, however DHA and EPA are by far the most important of these, though not the only ones.
And although these 2 essential fatty acids are commonly found in fish they are not as commonly found in other foods. They can be found in small quantities in some other foods but not many.
Some decades ago scientists began to realise that communities of people, like the Eskimos, who eat large amounts of fish, didn’t seem to suffer from the same rate of many of the lifestyle diseases that so many of us in the western world suffer from.
Heart disease in particular seemed to be so much less prevalent in communities of people who ate plenty of fish.
And so the scientists decided to study this, and discovered that the Omega3 fatty acids found in fish were essential to good health, and that we in the West didn’t eat enough fish, and consequently didn’t get enough Omega3 fats.
But what does all this have to do with your eyes? Just this. DHA makes up a large component of the retina of your eyes, and DHA is one of the Omega3 fats.
