<p>You went to the doctor and got the bad news. They took the detailed tests, Stress test, ECG, Blood Test and many more. The results came back with undesired readings.</p>
<p>You have coronary heart disease,(CHD) which is when your small blood vessels that transport the blood and oxygen to your heart have narrowed. CHD is the major cause of death for both men and women in America.</p>
<p>Coronary Heart Disease is a result of plaque accumulating along walls of the artery which causes an obstruction in the flow of blood to your heart putting it under stress. Your first step should be toreduce cholesterol in your diet. Hopefully you have caught it before you are in need of more complicated treatment.</p>
<p>Even if you have developed Chronic Heart Disease, it&#8217;s never too late to start trying some precautionary measures by adding omega 3 in your diet. One of the best ways to keep from developing heart disease in the first place is to reduce the amount of the saturated fat in your diet and include more omega 3 rich foods.</p>
<p>Keeping a watch on your cholesterol has become a laughing matter in the US, but it is not something to laugh about. Most of the people in America have high cholesterol. Then we have the other factor, triglycerides. They are not talked about nearly as much as cholesterol but are equally bad if allowed to go out of control. Studies have found getting omega 3 into your diet can assist in raising the HDL or good cholesterol while lowering both the LDL or bad cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. Cholesterol causes the plaque that is forming in your arteries that will in due course of time give you heart disease. It doesn&#8217;t happen fast, it&#8217;s a slow progressive disease that knocks you down with a heart attack usually before you know you have it.</p>
<p>If you are young or not aware of possibly having a heart problem, some of the symptoms you may want to watch out for are:</p>
<p>* Tiring easily<br />
* Short of breath<br />
* Feeling weak<br />
* Last of all, you could be suffering from chest pain, angina.</p>
<p>Angina is the most common sign of heart trouble. You get a feeling as if someone is grabbing your heart and squeezing it. The pain is a result of your clogged arteries not getting sufficient blood and oxygen to your heart. It varies in the intensity of pain. Some people only suffer mild pain while others may face a severe pain. You can also feel this pain in your arms, neck, in your stomach or in your upper back.</p>
<p>Omega 3 acids have proven to be very effective in preventing angina. Increased intake of Omega 3 fatty acids in the diet, will be beneficial even if you have already had an heart attack. It lowers the risk of death, having another heart attack, or stroke. It appears to help stop the hardening of the arteries by slowing down the build up of plaque and blood clots which slows the blood flow.</p>
<p>Now for a warning. Some people like to over do a good thing. Too much omega 3 in your diet can also be harmful. If you eat fish 3 times a day or take over 3 grams of omega 3 supplements, that can result in other complications. If taking more then 3 grams a day, be sure to be under the care of a doctor and as always, it&#8217;s always better to check with your doctor before starting any new medicines if you are already taking other medications.</p>
<p>If you are young and healthy, why not start a dietary change or add supplements to your diet to help you remain healthy and live a longer healthier life.</p>

<p>Given all these warnings you&#8217;d be forgiven for deciding that you should never eat fish again. So is eating fish good for you or not?</p>
<p><strong><em>There&#8217;s little doubtthat fish is good for you. It&#8217;s packed with Omega 3 essential fatty acids. It&#8217;s full of protein. It doesn&#8217;t have any carbohydrates. It does not have any saturated fats.</em></strong></p>
<p>It also has a stack of micronutrients including various minerals such as calcium and also a range of vitams such as vitamin A and vitamin D.</p>

<p>Of all the supplements that have been evaluated by research, Omega-3 (specifically fish oil) demonstrates the greatest effectiveness in reducing symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis.  Omega-3 works to help minimize the effect of Omega-6 fatty acids in the body.  The Omega-6 fatty acids are considered ‘proinflammatory&#8217; compounds.  These compounds not only have an effect on the cardiovascular system but the immune system as well.  As rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, supplementing with Omega-3 fatty acids help to reduce inflammation and support the immune system.</p>
<p>It is important to note that most benefits associated with taking Omega-3 supplements are not realized until after a minimum of 12 weeks of taking 3g (3000 mg) of fish oil (DHA/EPA).  Supplementing with Omega-3/fish oil can also be enhanced by increasing the consumption of Omega-3 rich foods such as salmon, tuna, trout, walnuts, flaxseed oil, and tofu is also suggested.  In addition, because Omega-3 works to offset the inflammatory effects of Omega-6 compounds, reducing the intake of these Omega-6 ‘proinflammatory&#8217; fatty acids can also help reduce inflammation.  Four major food oils including palm, soybean, rapeseed, and sunflower all contain high levels of Omega-6 and should be used sparingly.</p>

<p>And although these 2 essential fatty acids are commonly found in fish they are not as commonly found in other foods. They can be found in small quantities in some other foods but not many.</p>
<p>Some decades ago scientists began to realise that communities of people, like the Eskimos, who eat large amounts of fish, didn&#8217;t seem to suffer from the same rate of many of the lifestyle diseases that so many of us in the western world suffer from.</p>
<p><em>Heart disease in particular seemed to be so much less prevalent in communities of people who ate plenty of fish. </em></p>
<p>And so the scientists decided to study this, and discovered that the Omega3 fatty acids found in fish were essential to good health, and that we in the West didn&#8217;t eat enough fish, and consequently didn&#8217;t get enough Omega3 fats.</p>
<p><strong><em>But what does all this have to do with your eyes? Just this. </em><em>DHA makes up a large component of the retina of your eyes, and DHA is one of the Omega3 fats.</em></strong></p>
<p>Research is showing that an adequate supply of DHA in infancy, and even during pregnancy, can help improve the development of vision in young children.</p>
<p>And an adequate supply of DHA can also help older people. Macular degeneration is the single biggest cause of blindness in the elderly. The author has personal experience of this having watched someone go blind through macular degeneration.</p>
<p>Just like keeping up the supply of DHA to infants can help improve the development of infant vision keeping up the supply of DHA in older people has also been found, in scientific studies, to help reduce the risks of macular degeneration.</p>
<p>And as the implications of going blind in older age are extremely serious this has to be very good news.</p>
<p><em>Fortunately</em><em> you don&#8217;t need to eat fish every day.
